The portrait process begins with an initial consultation meeting to establish the desired concept for the portrait. For the client, the portrait process should be joyful and easy. The initial meeting should include time for you to describe the essence of the subject, which, as the artist, I hope to capture. You and I will also discuss the goals and scope of the project.
You will provide me with a photo to serve as my reference. I have found most people often have a photo that captures something special about the subject, which resonates with the client. Perhaps it is the only photo of a grandparent or parent. Maybe it is a picture of your child as a baby or a toddler, which captures that special sparkle you still see today, but less frequently.
If you don’t already have a special photo, I will provide a photographer and we will set aside a time to try and capture the subject in a familiar setting. The portrait is then created in the studio where I draw from the photographic references. All of my portraits are created on high quality drawing paper, which has a substantial weight and preserves the drawn image to an excellent standard.
Once the portrait is completed, I hold a meeting to ensure the drawing meets your approval. When you are completely satisfied I work with two incredibly skilled framers and can offer suggestions on frame choices should you desire this service.

“We were impressed from the beginning. Megan was thoughtful in her approach and cared deeply about who our father was. She took time to understand who he was as a man and father, and so it became more than just a portrait. Megan was able to capture a moment in time that exemplified warmth, compassion, and spirit. We never thought a portrait could express so much and we could not be more pleased with the outcome. Working with Megan was truly a pleasure and having a work of art so well done is something our family will cherish for generations.”
“Megan Peter’s portrait of our young daughters occupies a special place in our home. It captures a moment in their lives with remarkable intimacy, and I hope it will help them remember this time for the rest of their lives. Working with Megan was a pleasure, and her professionalism was apparent in every stage of the process. Her artistic suggestions were useful and made the final result even better than I had hoped. I would recommend her whole-heartedly and plan on using her again.”
“Before working with Megan, I had already admired so many of the portraits she drew for others. I was simply amazed by the life-like detail in her portraits. After Megan completed the portrait of my son, however, my appreciation for her work grew exponentially. Not only does the portrait resemble my son, but, it captures his personality. I can see the curious glimmer in his eyes and the laughter in his smile. I will cherish this beautiful piece of art for the rest of my life. I am so happy to have documented this stage of my child’s life in such a unique and special way. Thank you Megan!”
“Megan’s talent and attention to detail are obvious. What set her apart was her willingness to work with us throughout the creative process. She is a true master of her craft and we could not be more pleased with the final product. This portrait will always be one of the most treasured works in our home. I fully endorse Megan’s unique ability to take a nice photograph and turn it into a work of art.”
